The beginning of my own mindset journey.
During this blog, I will refer to ‘Motivate Your Mind’ as ‘MYM’.
I have been influenced by psychology for a number of years, this interest had led me to read a number of books which increased my fascination with the topic. Psychology has been the foundation of ‘MYM’, understanding aspect on how the mind works has been the key to unlock immense future potential. I became interested in learning how mindset and the choices we make impact our quality of life. This compelled me to research why we make certain choices and how society influences these choices. I have always been inspired by the idea of following our own path and not conforming to traditional or conventional ways of living. This revelation was the start of my own self-discovery and a chance to become what I’ve always wanted; independent and self-sufficient, giving me the freedom to live my life how I want to live it. I came to the conclusion that what I was learning would benefit others, therefore I wanted to see if I had to capability to showcase what I have learnt.
My motivation when starting ‘MYM’ wasn’t fitness related; nor was this at the forefront of the business model and honestly, it still isn’t today. A couple of years before Covid when I was dabbling in self-development I had ideas to create a business doing something I enjoyed and had passion for. However, a lack of belief, not knowing what to do or how to do it was all too daunting. This spiralled into a depletion of confidence, and gave me the sense of feeling frustrated, trapped, and lost. This was all too much for my mind and overwhelming. I was missing the fundamental foundations of mindset work.
In 2020 when the world was turned upside down, I found myself taking the whole self-development process more seriously. I had had enough of not achieving, completing, nor following through with an idea. This was a period where I was in need of change. I had no choice but to look inwards to discover myself, this was the real start on working on my own foundations.
“Is someone afraid of change? Well, what can ever come to be without change? Or what is dearer or closer to the nature of the Whole than change? Can you yourself take a bath if the wood that heats it is not changed? Can you be fed unless what you eat changes? Can any other of the benefits of life be achieved without change? Do you not see then that for you to be changed is equal, and equally necessary to the nature of the Whole?”
- Marcus Aurelius
How I helped my mindset in the beginning.
1. Understanding what discipline means.
Setting myself a goal to complete: 100 Push Ups, Sit Ups, & 150 Squats every day for the 54 days. I created a chart and planned to tick and date each day accordingly. I failed on the seventh day! I leaned that it didn’t matter if I didn’t feel like doing something, I was to do it anyway. So, I continued, and I ended up completing this daily habit for over year, without missing a day.
2. Helping my confidence grow through creativity.
I created an Instagram page and started to post drawings. @mymwellbeingsketch
I challenge myself to post for 100 days without fail. This helped me express myself without the fear of failure, being ridiculed or caring what others think. For me, this was a big lesson.
3. Confidence grows outside our comfort zone.
I had a fear of speaking on a voice recorder, let alone speaking on camera, yet I started recording myself. Eventually, I posted myself speaking on camera on social media. This progressed to recording our first Podcast and publishing our episodes live on Spotify and Apple.
4. Lessons I learnt in no particular order.
· Consistency.
· Perseverance.
· Not to act based on emotions.
· Habit creating
· Discipline
· The importance of values in life and in business
How’s it going so far?
It’s been a long, exciting journey of self-discovery, yet the learning continues and will always continue. Since the beginning I have read many books on mindset, habits, confidence, discipline, law of attraction and psychology. Increasing our knowledge in order to help others is key for us. Rosanna and I enrolled on a Life Coaching course and have obtained certificates in understanding Mental Health and Wellbeing. I have been using my Personal Training skills to showcase the importance of fitness when it comes to mindset. So far, we have helped clients increase in confidence, self-esteem, mental resilience, and improving their mental health.
Recent research and interest.
My recent study and reading have been on Stoicism, a philosophy that encourages me to live a life with simplicity, depth and meaning. It funny when you find something you’ve always felt intuitive towards and then discover that these words were written over 2000 years ago. I like to incorporate my interest in history, philosophy, intuition, and psychology into my business, because I believe it has a greater meaning and depth that can really resonate with other likeminded people.
What’s the purpose of ‘Motivate Your Mind’?
We are here “To inspire and motive you; to enhance your ability to make positive choices and to focus on your mental wellbeing”. This became the businesses mission statement and I think it sums up pretty well what we are trying to achieve. As a Mindset and Life Coaching venture, it’s important that we help others determine their best course of action for them to reach a desired goal.
