About me

Inspiring Positive Change

Hi, my name is Gary and I spent just under 17 years in the Police Services: 12 years as a Police Officer, including 11 years in the Metropolitan Police and exactly 1 year in the British Transport Police (BTP) in Leeds. Prior to that, I was police staff working front line as a PCSO in the Met for 5 years.

Policing the capital is an experience I’ll never forget. The life skills I’ve gained from this job are unlike any other working environment – something nobody can take away from me.

Given the nature of the job, keeping fit and healthy was a key for me, which in turn kept me mentally fit as well. Mental health issues are on the rise in Policing and across all aspects of the emergency services, and I know the importance of looking after yourself. This wasn’t always easy, and stress did play a factor in my career.

After leaving policing in December 2023 for a 9-5 role, my goal is to help shift workers take control of their health by committing to sustainable goals and ensuring consistency with a plan.

I’ve been a qualified personal trainer since 2011 and have always done 1:1 PT sessions. This has been my passion since school. I have been influenced by psychology for a number of years, this interest had led me to read a number of books which increased my fascination with the topic. Psychology has been the foundation of ‘MYM’, understanding aspect on how the mind works has been the key to unlock immense future potential. I became interested in learning how mindset and the choices we make impact our quality of life. This compelled me to research why we make certain choices and how society influences these choices.

I am now excited to share what I can offer to old colleagues and others working shifts within the emergency services or other roles. After working almost 17 years in policing, I feel I have a good understanding of the demand and how important it is to look after our health, especially when your job is to protect the public.

I have always been inspired by the idea of following our own path and not conforming to traditional or conventional ways of living. This revelation was the start of my own self-discovery and a chance to become what I’ve always wanted; independent and self-sufficient, giving me the freedom to live my life how I want to live it. I came to the conclusion that what I was learning would benefit others, therefore I wanted to see if I had to capability to showcase what I have learnt. In recent times, I have enrolled in professional coaching and mentoring courses, which have broadened my knowledge and provided me with the skills to help others effectively.
